‘Huisboomfeest’ (home tree feast) is a cityscape made from 2005 till 2010. The result will give an impression of five neighbourhoods around the Pius-harbour in the Dutch city of Tilburg. The project focuses on the visual traces of what could be called the area’s cyclical time. It tries to capture – by means of pictures and projects – the recurring phenomena in the street scene of the area.
Together with local residents all sorts of visual data (around the three themes of home, tree and feast) are being collected. An extensive website (in Dutch), launched on May 28, 2005, acts as an archive for the growing collection and gives general information about the project.
Photographs have been taken of all sorts of places, situations and signs. Trees of the area are shown in a webxylothek, for which children from primary schools collect tree refuse (leaves, flowers, seeds, etc.). Students of the University of Tilburg take a semiotic look at spots/places in the area and write essays about them. Walks are made with local residents, presenting a personal history of the area.
The project will run parallel to the urban renewal of the area until 2010, and then it will try to connect with the area’s new role and image.

‘Huisboomfeest’ maakt vanaf 2005 een stadsgezicht van het Piushavengebied in Tilburg. Het kunstproject wil de cyclische tijd in het Piushavengebied belichten tot en met 2010. Door in de vijf woonwijken dat wat herhaald opdoemt in het straatbeeld met foto’s en projecten in beeld te brengen, wordt een impressie van het gebied gemaakt. Want wie laat er sporen achter in het straatbeeld? En wie valt het op?
In samenwerking met bewoners en betrokkenen worden er allerlei visuele gegevens over de wijken verzameld. Daarbij dient de op 28 mei 2005 gelanceerde website als een informatie- en verzamelpunt.
Zo worden er foto’s genomen van allerlei plekken, situaties of tekens. Bomen worden in beeld gebracht door de webxylotheek; basisscholen sprokkelen daarvoor en hun ‘sprokkels’ worden ook online gezet. Studenten van de universiteit observeren plekken en schrijven hierover. Er worden wandelingen gemaakt met bewoners om zo een ander beeld te krijgen of een (persoonlijke) geschiedenis op te tekenen van een gebied of een plek.
Het kunstproject loopt tot 2010 synchroon aan de stedenbouwkundige ontwikkelingen van het Piushavengebied en wil in een later stadium aansluiting zoeken bij de nieuwe woon- en recreatiefuncties in dit gebied.
